New and emerging technologies in defence education, training and governance
Guest editors: Prof. Dr. Małgorzata Gawlik-Kobylińska, Prof. Doç. Dr. Erdost Özkan
As new and emerging technologies transform the landscape of defence education and training, they challenge traditional pedagogical approaches and open opportunities for innovative solutions. The rapid development of immersive systems such as VR, AR, MR, and CAVE environments has expanded the possibilities of military and civilian training, simulation-based learning, and preparedness for complex crisis scenarios. At the same time, the integration of advanced technologies into education raises questions about accessibility, effectiveness, ethical dimensions, and resilience in the defence sector.
The call for papers for an upcoming special issue of Security and Defence Quarterly, entitled “New and Emerging Technologies in Defence Education, Training and Governance”, invites original research papers addressing how immersive and technology-enhanced solutions influence education and training in defence and security contexts.
We seek a wide range of contributions, including but not limited to:
1. immersive technologies (VR, AR, MR, CAVE) in defence and security education,
2. applications of simulation and modelling for crisis management and preparedness,
3. innovative instructional design for technology-enhanced defence training,
4. military and civilian training supported by emerging technologies,
5. evaluation and assessment of learning outcomes in immersive environments,
6. ethical, social, and psychological dimensions of technology-supported training,
7. international cooperation and case studies of technology integration in defence education.
8. case studies related to new and emerging technologies in defence education and training
9. legal and regulatory perspectives on the use of new and emerging technologies in the defence and security context
10. organisational and quality management implications of technology integration in military and civilian institutions
11. resilience and societal preparedness in technology-enhanced defence and security
