As artificial intelligence reshapes the global security architecture, influences military capabilities, social dynamics, international cooperation, it is imperative to reevaluate traditional security paradigms. As artificial intelligence reshapes the global security architecture, influencing military capabilities, social dynamics, and international cooperation, the necessity to reevaluate traditional security paradigms becomes increasingly urgent. The contemporary security architecture has expanded beyond mere physical threats to encompass a broader spectrum of cyber and informational challenges. Innovative approaches are required that integrate AI to address the evolving complexities of cybersecurity and infrastructure protection. The call for papers for an upcoming special issue of Security & Defence Quarterly, entitled “AI frontiers in cybersecurity and infrastructure protection” invites original research papers that address topics related to the transition from traditional security models to more comprehensive strategies addressing the complexities of AI and cyber threats. We seek a wide range of potential contributions including, but not limited to:
1) the role of AI in enhancing or compromising security
2) AI applications in engineering and infrastructure
3) AI-driven cybersecurity measures and their implications for privacy and civil liberties
4) the use of AI in military strategy, including autonomous weapons systems and decision-support systems for infrastructure protection
5) the challenges of AI in combating mis- / disinformation and cyber threats
6) ethical considerations and policy-making in the deployment of AI technologies in cybersecurity and infrastructure protection sectors
7) case studies on the implementation of AI in security frameworks and its impact on international cooperation, particularly in cybersecurity and infrastructure protection areas.
8) immersive technology in military education
9) virtual environments and user interaction
10) advanced imaging and sensing techniques in infrastructure protection and cybersecurity
Manuscript submission
We encourage submissions of empirical studies, theoretical analyses, and detailed case studies that provide insights into the multifaceted relationship between AI and cybersecurity and infrastructure protection. Manuscripts should be no longer than 5000 to 8000 words, including abstract, references, and tables; they should be formatted and submitted per standard policies and procedures of the Security & Defence Quarterly:
https://securityanddefence.pl/. Once you have accessed the SDQ website, click on the ‘Submit your paper’ button, log in, then select
AI frontiers in cybersecurity and infrastructure protection Special Issue. All submissions are subject to standard peer review, revision, and re-submission processes.
